Story: this movie presents a possible future world, where human cloning is easy and possible. Main hero, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, is being cloned (and replaced by his clone), by mistake and without his knowledge, and now there are two of him. Now, the corporation which cloned Arnold, wants to kill him to remove evidence.

The process of cloning in this world is so sophisticated that not only body is being cloned but also memories and mind: clone does not have (initially) a knowledge of being a clone. In this world human cloning is forbidden by law called "6th day": however cloning of pets is allowed. Evil corporations, despite the law, are secretly cloning humans.

About title: "6th day" is a name of law, which prohibits human cloning. It comes probably from Bible from Genesis: on the 6th day God created a man.

Comment: this is an action movie, DON'T EXPECT INTELLIGENT STORY and SPECTACULAR ACTION. It is a movie, where Arnold can play with muscles (some lame special effects), but human cloning presented there is very realistic and NOT a science-fiction. The only thing which is dubious is that during the process of cloning also memories are being cloned (by memory machine). Of course the movie itself is not very intelligent because it is done mainly to allow poor low IQ Arnold S. to make some action, but human cloning is realistic (it is possible even today, in year 2000).
